Laura

Studio Owner and founder

Hi, I’m Laura Westlake — proud founder of ONYA Pilates and long-time Hexham local. I’ve called this lovely town home for the past seven years, but a big part of my heart is also tied to Australia, where I got married in beautiful Burleigh Heads to my Aussie husband. That’s where the name ONYA comes from — Aussie slang for “good on you” — and it perfectly captures the spirit I want to bring into the studio: uplifting, encouraging, and full of positive energy.

My journey into Pilates started after having my son. It helped me reconnect with my body, ease back pain, and feel strong again — and I knew I wanted to share that with others. With over 12 years in primary education, teaching is second nature to me, so making the leap to become a Pilates instructor felt completely right.

Now trained in mat, reformer, and pre/postnatal Pilates, I love creating a space where people can move, recharge, and feel good in their bodies. I’ve always been into fitness (a long-time runner and high-intensity fan!), but I’ve also come to appreciate the slower, mindful strength that Pilates brings — with just the right amount of burn!

Whether you're looking to sweat, stretch, or simply take an hour for yourself, ONYA is your space to feel supported, strong, and celebrated. Come move with me — I can’t wait to welcome you.
